Studies at the Faculty of Education

Since August 2005 the Finnish national higher education system has been following the principles set out in the Europe-wide Bologna Agreement. The degree structure is mainly based on a two-cycle model. The first cycle ends in a three years Bachelor-level degree (kandidaatti) and the second cycle consists of a two years Master's degree (maisteri). Most students finish with a Master´s degree as their first degree. Postgraduate studies (jatko-opinnot) usually refer to post-Master´s level studies, Licentiate or Doctoral studies.

The Faculty offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes (B.A., M.A., Phil. Lic. and Ph.D.) with majors in Education, Adult Education, Special Education and Crafts Education. In addition, the Faculty qualifies subject teachers by offering pedagogical studies in teacher education as minor studies for students majoring at the University's other faculties.

The language of tuition is generally Finnish. The Master's programme in Learning, Learning Environments and Educational Systems is taught in English. Also the postgraduate studies might be carried out in English.
