Information for exchange students
Since August 2005 the Finnish national higher education system has been following the principles set out in the Europe-wide Bologna Agreement. The degree structure is mainly based on a two-cycle model. The first cycle ends in a Bachelor-level degree (kandidaatti) and the second cycle consists of a Master's degree (maisteri). Please see here for information about the undergraduate degrees (BA & MA) offered at the Faculty of Education.
Courses offered in English at the Faculty of Education
The courses offered in English for the exchange students at the Faculty of Education are listed under the 'Courses in Education for Exchange Students 2012-13'. Please do pay attention to the fact that the grading is done on a pass-fail -scale for some of the courses and it is not possible to get a numerical grade for those courses. The course information for the following academic year is available from the beginning of June.
NB! The School Experience is offered only to the exchange students of the Faculty of Education who study to become teachers.
Courses offered by the other faculties
You may take courses also from the other faculties of the university and from the Language Centre. Please see http://www.utu.fi/en/studying/programmes for course information.
Learning Agreements
Learning Agreement is part of the electronic Application Form, so you do not have to send it separately. Please note that due to the amount of applications and enclosures we do not automatically send the Learning Agreement back to you. You will receive a signed Learning Agreement after arriving to Turku. If you need it before you arrive to Turku, please tick the relevant box in the Application Form.
Timing and amount of studies
Please do take into consideration that if you choose courses outside the Faculty of Education the course timetables might overlap. In such cases you might have to drop some of the courses. There is no fixed schedule for the hours to be done at school for the School Experience. The exchange student agrees with the teacher of the class or teachers of different classes when to do the hours required for the School Experience. It might be that because of those overlapping timetables getting altogether 30 ECTS credits during the autumn term is quite a demanding task. Autumn term is also shorter than spring term.
