ClassTeacher Education. Studies lead to the degree of Master of Education at the extent of 300 ECTS credits (see http://www.edu.utu.fi/en/studying/undergraduate/ClassTeacherEducation_Rauma.pdf). Studies aim to provide students with professional and academic skills required as a class teacher. Students take Educational Science as a major subject and, if they wish, they can continue their studies towards the degree of licentiate and/or doctor.
Sloyd teacher education. The studies lead to the degree of Master of Education at the extent of 300 ECTS credits. Students become qualified to teach technology education with or without a second subject at primary, secondary and upper secondary level. Furthermore, students become qualified to work in social services and in cultural and business world in tasks that require expertise in technology education. Students’ major subject is technology education. Minor subject studies that lead to a qualification as a class teacher can be included in the degree. Students can continue their studies towards the licentiate and/or doctoral degree.
Kindergarten Teacher Education. The studies lead to degree of Bachelor of Education, which, at the extent of 180 ECTS credits, is a lower academic degree. The degree qualifies students as kindergarten teachers in day-care and pre-school education. Students become competent to carry out expert tasks in the field of education and are eligible for continuing academic studies at university level.
In addition to teacher education the Department of Teacher Education in Rauma carries on research in the science of technology education and in early education, provides postgraduate education, develops distance learning methods, and promotes use of new information technology in education. The Department strives to offer a variety of minor subjects and encourages student exchange between Rauma and universities both in Finland and abroad.
Teacher Training School in Rauma focuses on integrating pre-school and early education, use of information technology in teaching and content and language integrated learning. The focus areas are linked to development projects supported by the school. The Department of Teacher Education and the training school also emphasise media education, and teaching and research in arts and crafts education.
As a learning environment, the Teacher Training School is particularly well suited to teaching practice, because it provides students with ideas and models for the 21st century schools. The Ministry of Education has named Rauma Teacher Training School as a pilot project in the use of information technology in schools. Therefore the school building has been designed to facilitate the integration of audio-visual and information technology with teaching.
The Department of Teacher Education participated in the design of the new school building and has access to the school premises, such as the auditorium, the audio-visual studio, the gym and the assembly hall and well appointed group and private working areas, which enable diverse teaching and recreational activities.
In addition to their main tasks, the Department of Teacher Education and the Teacher Training School in Rauma provide tailor-made courses in further education.

Department of Teacher Education in Rauma
The Department was originally founded in 1896 as the Rauma Teacher Seminar, then annexed to the University of Turku in 1974 as the Department of Teacher Education.
There are about 750 students enrolled in the department, with personnel of about 70.

Teacher Training School in Rauma
First classes were held in Myllymäki school in 1899 (the training school for the Seminar). The school was annexed to the University of Turku in 1974 as the Teacher Training School in Rauma. The school has primary school classes from first to sixth grades.
Total number of administrative and teaching personnel is around 30, with approximately 260 pupils attending the school.
